Factory Underground was Once Again the Studio of Choice for Classical Pianist Elina Christova

Norwalk-based classical pianist Elina Christova dropped in to record two more Bulgarian piano pieces with studio engineers Kenny Cash and Tom Stewart. Last spring she recorded Alexander Vladigerov’s variations on the popular Bulgarian folk song “Dilmano, Dilbero” with them, and has now added the same composer’s “Toccata” to her tracks.

The second composition was the “Autumn Elegy” by Alexander’s father Pancho Vladigerov, which comes from his Three Pieces Op. 15. Although it succeeds the lively prelude in the collection, it was actually written first. This sad, nostalgic piece is connected to the tragic fate of the close friend and admirer of the composer, the Foreign Minister of Bulgaria Dimitar Shishmanov, who was sentenced and shot to death by the new pro-Soviet regime after WWII.

Our Yamaha grand piano sounds beautiful in both these works, and we used our state of the art random incidence high definition microphones, perfectly capturing the technical precision and nuance Elina’s performances are known for.
